The Mesorah Baltimore Scholar in Residence Program is Sponsored by: The Charles Crane Family Foundation
Meet our Speaker:
Mrs. Ruhama Welcher has been teaching Torah and training teachers in London, the USA and South Africa for 20 years, and is the director of the Chief Rabbi’s Office of Education (in South Africa). She received her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Innovation from Warwick University in England, and is pursuing her PhD in Education and International Development at University College London. Ruhama lives in Johannesburg with her husband and children.
Sponsorship Dedication:
Programming on December 17th has been sponsored in memory of Celia Firestein by her niece and nephew Yitzchok and Barbara Lehmann Siegel and family (Silver Spring, Maryland).
CELIA FIRESTEIN (Tzil bat Raphael), lived in the Upper Park Heights area of Baltimore for over 30 years. She attended Shearith Israel Congregation and loved regularly attending the shabbos shiurim there as well as other community Torah lectures. Celie had a full and loving life until the age of 91. She was a devoted daughter to her parents, and was beloved by her nieces and nephews. Celie showed respect and kindness to all whom she met. She was known for the smiling way she welcomed everyone, and always faced life with fortitude, emunah in Hashem and “panim yafot.”
It is appropriate therefore that the Sunday programming is dedicated to the memory of this dear lady – Celia Firestein. Her life was devoted to helping and giving to others – and to exploring yiddishkeit in a full range of shiurim. Celie would surely have been pleased to know that so many would enjoy, learn and grow from these events.
"I'm deeply inspired by the women who participate in our programs.
Their unwavering commitment to Torah study and practice empowers not only themselves but also enriches their families and homes."
